What Is Detailing?Detailing is a widely used term in the car industry, with various meanings and interpretations. For some, car detailing means simply washing and vacuuming a vehicle. To others, it means spending countless hours to achieve the maximum potential of that certain vehicle. To us detailing is an artform. We do not do simple wash and wax quick details at a high volume. Instead, we take the time to do the right thing for not only the vehicle, but the customer. We are proud of the quality work we provide and instead prefer quality over quanity.

Do you give quotes on detailing services over the phone?Simply put, NO. At Metro Detroit Auto Detailing we require a Pre-Detail Assessment before any detailing service is done. During this assessment, we evaluate the paintwork and thoroughly discuss with the owner his/her concerns and expectations. We are able to focus on each vehicle individually and develop a process that’s specifically tailored only for that vehicle. We will not give quotes over the phone or match prices at other detailing facilities. As stated above, we tailor our detailing services specifically for your vehicle. As we like to say, "every car has a story." Some are neglected for years without proper matinenance, others are garage kept and rarely driven, therefore a car that is the same color, same year, make, and model can need more work than others.

Is detailing just washing and waxing?Auto detailing is part of a process that concludes with the application of a wax, sealant, or coating. The first detailing step is the car wash. Washing alone cannot remove contamination that has bonded to your paint. The deep cleansing of the paint is essential to the effectiveness and durability of the wax or sealant applied. A coating cannot be applied to a surface that is not surgically clean.

Why should I choose Metro Detroit Auto Detailing instead of a local car wash that can do it cheaper and quicker?Metro Detroit Auto Detailing was created for car enthusiasts who want only the best for their vehicles. Proper detailing techniques and products are the key to quality successful detailing. We strive every day to improve not only our tools and products, but also our knowledge in the industry to provide the best results. We are highly skilled detailers who push ourselves daily to be the best. Local car washes focus on quantity rather than quality and aim to get as many vehicles done as possible. This drastically lowers the quality of the work and can even damage the vehicles paint. The same can be said for automatic "brush" car washes. The brushes commonly used in most car washes are often dirty, and rarely cleaned. What this means for your vehicle is swirls, scratching, and marring to your vehicles paint. Over time this can drastically reduce the shine, clarity, and depth to your vehicle. At Metro Detroit Auto Detailing we require a Pre-Detail Assessment before any detailing service is done. During this assessment, we evaluate the paintwork and thoroughly discuss with the owner his/her concerns and expectations. Therefore we are able to focus on each vehicle individually and develop a process that’s specifically tailored only for that vehicle.

Where do most swirls and scratches come from? These defects most commonly occur as a result of using an automatic car wash, as well as improper hand washing.
-
What is the difference between a polish and a wax?Polish is used to produce a shine by improving the clarity of your paint. A wax, sealant, or coating is used primarily for protection. But a high quality wax, sealant, or coating can also enhance the depth of polished paint.
-
What is paint correction?Paint correction is the process through which paint contaminants, swirl marks, scratches and other defects are improved or removed from the paint surface. This enhances the depth, clarity, and gloss ti the paint. Proper paint correction takes countless hours to properly do. Paint correction is followed by a hand application of high quality sealants or coating to protect the paint, and increase the true depth and luster of the paint. Swirl marks, or swirls, normally refers to “spider-web” scratches on the paint surface. Some people also use the term “swirl marks” when referring to buffer holograms. The spider-web scratches are mainly caused by improper maintenance techniques such as washing, drying and waxing. Buffer holograms are trails left behind after improper use of a polishing machine, whether it be improper technique or incorrect products and materials.

If buying a new car, is it necessary to get it detailed immediately?"Absolutely. A thorough detail on a brand new car is the best way to begin paint maintenance and prolong the life of your vehicles painted surfaces. Typically when vehicles are transported to dealerships rail yard dust, hard water spots, and saltwater can accumulate on the vehicles surface. There is also the almost definite chance the car was improperly detailed by the dealership, usually causing swirl marks discussed due to the contamination accumulated on the vehicle during transportation. It is rare for a new car to look as it should, which is free of swirl marks and contamination prior to pursching the vehicle. At the very least, we recommend bringing any new car in for a Pre-Detail Assessment so we can evaluate the condition and proceed accordingly.
